I'm feeling the Christmas Spirit.

A bottle of ink and a new toothpick to sketch with will be on my Christmas list this year, but if I get a bundle of charcoal instead, that will be good too. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Loose Sketching In December by Larry Lerew

Went out Loose Sketching today and first stopped in Dillsburg along Balitimore Street. Busy day, lots of traffic, mailed a painting and bought some Christmas stamps. This sketch of Dill Tavern was drawn with a tooth pick in a holder and dipped in ink. I liked the dry texture and free flow. The second stop was past Brandtsville along Creek Road at the corner of Kuhn and Creek Roads in Cumberland County. I liked this Loose Sketch made with a ink brush pen and the dry brush effect I got on the rough finish paper. This sycamore tree has always been a favorite of mine since I first sketched it in the early 1970's. It must be the biggest tree in my area.

Pretty colors everywhere this October - Larry Lerew

We had a beautiful colorful October Sunday today, October 25, which was perfect for making some art so I went into Dillsburg, Pennsylvania to sketch. I loved the orange mountain behind this church on E. Church Street. Just as I was finishing with my pastel sky color I hit a wet ink spot and suddenly the drawing told me I needed to add a flock of flying migrating birds to address a smudge. You never know how things will turn out when working loose and free style.

Painting Boiling Springs on a Big Canvas by Larry Lerew

Finally found the right moment to go paint Boiling Springs, PA again with a fresh eye on a big canvas. We had a forecast of a stretch of pleasant dry air this week so I planned a two day painting. 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day on the street, start to finish was most rewarding. I had hoped to paint a street scene but this "Red Beauty" presented its self and stopped me in my tracks. I worked off the tailgate of my pick-up truck under a cool shade tree. Lots of people stopped to see me work and enjoyed having a painter in town. I always want to go back for more.

Trees Outback by Larry Lerew

Trees Outback by Larry Lerew
12" x 15" Charcoal on Drawing Paper
Had a great afternoon warming up to Spring! I got as far as my back porch and set up my easel for my first charcoal sketch of the new 2015 season. This is looking over at the run and seeing all the dried grass and brush left behind from winter. I did see a couple of stray kids wander in from the township park and it reminded me of all the hours our own boys played in this spot.
