Winter Apple Pruning by Larry Lerew

Winter Apple Pruning by Larry Lerew
11" x 15" Water Media on Crumpled Gessoed Brown Kraft Paper

Had some fun in the studio yesterday with a photo I took of a local apple orchard not far from my studio. I think the farmer had been pruning the day before the snow hit and the ladder and trimmings were still in the orchard. I love seeing the craggy trees in winter. My crumpled paper gave me a kind of batik feel to the painting by adding texture and random fold lines throughout. Painting in the sky as a reverse shape was fun.  This painting was a joy to complete and I think I'll try more of these.
